Judy from Parents’ GoodyBlog has tagged me with this meme:
Give the meaning of your kids’ names, and write about what or how or why you gave the name to your kids. Tag five people to play along and leave a comment at their blog to let them know they have been tagged.
This is a little tricky for me as my kids go by pseudonyms here, but I’ll make it work! Heck, it might even be more fun this way as I didn’t pick their birth names!.
Ninja Boy was given this name because since birth he has been obsessed with Ninjas. We coaxed him into going to Kindergarten and First Grade by telling him that ninjas have to graduate before they can really be a ninja. I suppose I don’t have long before I’ll have to change his name to Ninja Man. Ooooon second thought, No. He’ll always be Ninja Boy. His birth name is actually The Man’s bff, Cowboy's, name and TM’s name. When Cowboy has a son (which, may be never) he is supposed to switch the names around. So his child will be The Man Cowboy. Or, would it be Boy Ninja?? You get what I mean, right?
Sunshine’s pseudonym came to me immediately. Since she was a baby, she has been the sunshine in my life. Plus, her appearance had a lot to do with it - She has the most beautiful “light up the room” smile. And she is a natural blonde with a natural tan. She’s also a total summer girl. I have a feeling this one will be leaving me for the West coast when she gets old enough. If she could, she would live in flip-flops and skirts or shorts.
My sweet Isabella – we had a really hard time picking names for this one. I really wanted to name her Hazel after my great-grandma, but The Man said “No way.” He actually – seriously – wanted the name Holly. I wish I could tell you all what his last name is because the combination is just ridiculous. Like, INSANELY ridiculous. So anyway, we were at a hotel visiting with my grandparents and they asked me what we had come up with for names. Out of *nowhere* The Man says, “What about Isabella Grace?” and I was set on it. I have no idea how he came up with it, but it was seriously the most beautiful name I’d ever heard.
I have to tag five people! A lot of you go by pseudonyms yourselves, so this could be hard.
So instead (because I break all the rules), just tell me in the comments how you came up with them. Or! If you have a lot to say, feel free to consider this a tag. :)

I actually call Magoo, Magoo. When he was three one of my precious little nephews cut several big chunks out of Magoo's hair. The only way I could make it look ok was to shave it all off. Later that evening he 'dressed up' in one of my dad's old bowler hats. With his little bald head and hat he made me think of the cartoon character Mr. Magoo. The rest is history.
Yup, I started writing this one, but realized it got WAY too long--so long that even I couldn't bear to leave it in your comments. That happens when you have four kids' names to explain. Anyway, I'm off to my own blog to post this, and I will consider myself tagged by you. Cuz it's REALLY embarrassing to fill out a Meme that you weren't tagged for... hahahaha
Ours is a simple tell: Gavin and I agreed on only two names (one boy and one girl). That, plus the fact that he has a pretty awful last name and nothing sounds good with it. We were so screwed if Elise turned out to be a boy. There's no way we can have a #3 because the kid would be nameless.
Jan for my daughter... Peachtree for her twin brother (no reason for either of those... funny!) and Bobadam for my oldest as it rhymes with his name. =] Interesting question! I feel like I need to come up with better nick names now ! lol hummmmm
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Isabella. Love it. In fact, if my Connor would have been a girl that would have been his name. AND I had to write a long ass story for my Honors class a few semesters ago and my main character was named Bella! ANYWAY, just wanted you to know that the Man has great taste in names.....
My kids names on my blog are their names in real life because I am so not that creative. And they have their names because we like them I guess. :) (hahhaha)
The Princess--her name was self proclaimed by her.
Jr. Peanut-- because he's a JR. I'm not sure why peanut.
The Breadwinner--Duh! I'm a stay at home mom, so obviously I wasn't the breadwinner.
I was tagged by 'twas brillig for this one. I like your list and how you have the nicknames to suit their personalities.
Love what you said about Sunshine. Hubby did the same with my daughters middle name...like TM did with Isabella Grace. He just came up with it out of nowhere and it was perfect.
I used my kids initials on my blog. *sigh* I'm so boring....
MX? Because he thought it was a cooler way to spell (and say) his name....and it is. I wish he had stuck with it!
The real name: Because I liked it, I was trying to go scandinavian...and decided on it weeks before his birth but didn't tell ANYONE (including you know who), so people couldn't tell me no, haha. When he was born I said "he looks like a ______ _____" and who in their right mind would argue with a woman who'd just given birth to a not-small baby with no meds!?!?!
